Basic Gundog Training
This is a 4 month training program to get your dog ready for opening day.
Month 1: In the first month your dog will go through basic obedience (heel, here, sit, stay, and kennel) along with whistle commands on and off lead. Your dog will also be introduced to land and water retrieves, birds, other dogs, and gun fire. Month 2: This month your dog will go through collar conditioning and force fetching. During this process your dog will learn to fetch and hold on command as well as to deliver to hand. This month is the foundation for all future training. Month 3: During this month your dog will work on being steady by not leaving for the retrieve until released. Your dog will also be introduced to doubles on land and water. Month 4: In this month your dog will retrieve on land and water in hunting type situations. There will be more cover and obstacles on land and water retrieves. We will use duck calls, gun shots, and decoys. By the end of this month your will be ready for opening day. |
